Types of Licences

Student Pilots Licence (SPL)

If you're thinking about learning to fly, one of the first steps is applying for a Student Pilots Licence. New students can start their training without this licence, however before you can progress through the "first solo" component of your licence you will need to hold a current student licence. See our staff for application details.

General Flying Progress Test (GFPT)

Student Pilot’s Licence with Passenger Carrying Privileges

A GFPT is similar to a Restricted Private Helicopters Pilots Licence. A GFPT allows students to carry passengers within our designated Training Area without holding a Private or Commercial Helicopter Pilots Licence. To qualify for a GFPT you require at least 20 Hours Dual Instruction, 10 Hours Solo and hold a minimum current Class 2 Medical. If you qualify for a GFPT you will need to complete and pass a flight test with an Approved CASA Testing Officer. Aerowasps' Chief Flying Instructor (Peter Holstein) is an Independent Approved Testing Officer.

Private Helicopter Licence (PPL)

A Private Helicopter Pilots Licence allows the holder of the licence to fly privately within Australia. A private pilot cannot seek employment on a private licence. The private licence is popular for people who like flying as a hobby or for leisure.
To qualify for a Private Licence you must have completed the CASA Private Licence syllabus and logged at least 50 Hours of flying time and instruction. The candidate must hold a minimum current class 2 medical and have a pass in the Private theory exam which is conducted in-house through the CASA assessment portal. Finally the candidate must complete and pass a Private Flight Tests with an Approved CASA Testing Officer.

Commercial Helicopter Licence (CPL)

If you're thinking about making a career in the Helicopter Aviation industry then the CPL(H) is the licence for you. Helicopter careers are amongst the most rewarding careers in the world, with a huge variety of different types of work. Helicopters can be utilised for Joy flights, scenic flights, charter, fire fighting, photography, search and rescue, police operations, crop dusting, frost control, mustering, geological surveys, power line surveys and many more exciting jobs.
To qualify for a CPL(H) the candidate must complete the Commercial CASA syllabus and logged a minimum 105 hours flight training. The candidate must also have a pass in all 7 theory subjects and hold a current class 1 medical. Finally the candidate must complete and pass a Commercial Flight Test with an Approved CASA Testing Officer
